About St. Catherine's Anglican Ministry

Since 1981 there has been a church building on the present site of St. Catherine's, Middle Park. Built as a multi-function building, it has always served the community as a meeting place and functions area, as well as a church building. It is not a traditional church building, more functional than pretty, but its focal point is Anglican Ministry.

We are a diverse parish, and as land developers have put into the area new residences, the parish has expanded geographically. At present the parish includes the main centre at Middle Park which is the site of the parish office, the ministry centre (church) and the home of the Rector.

The parish attempts to minister to the needs of all age groups and attempts to foster bonds with the wider community. For example we have an excellent relationship with the Middle Park State School, which often utilizes our facilities.

The parish has 1 priest. Our rector is The Reverend Brian Hughes.

Our aim is to create the environment for people to grow in the knowledge and love of God, as it is understood in the Christian Faith. We are unashamedly Anglican, since this is the tradition through which members of our community have come to know the love and care of Jesus Christ. The general theological perspective of the community is middle of the road Anglican that leans toward the liberal end of the spectrum. We clearly recognise the ministry of women within our community, whether that be as an ordained person or in any other leadership role in our community. However, the basics of the faith are accepted as the ground on which we build our relationship with God.

The parish has a history of planning for growth. We can only have what we are as a community are willing to pay for and or work towards. Sustaining a parish of this size has only been possible by the regular financial contributions of parishioners through the offering envelope system. As people commit themselves to support our work, we plan a budget and look to what can realistically be achieved.

We are also part of a wider group of parishes that support the social outreach to the communities at Inala and Goodna. This parish has a close relationship to that work in informal and formal ways.
