ELECTRONIC SHEEP COUNTER

"Every shed should have them"

Some of the benefits which come through using "STOCKOUNT"

  • There's a saving of time and effort because you don't have to physically count the sheep.

  • Holding pens are not necessary because the shorn sheep have been counted as they go down the chute.

  • SAVE! A Stockount unit costs less than the cost of building a holding pen.

  • Shorn sheep are immediately available for drenching, branding, etc.

  • There's a better work flow in the shearing operation and therefore greater efficiency in the use of staff.

  • Shearers have their total count always available to them.

  • A buzzer mounted in the display unit emits a short loud tone which verifies that the sheep has been counted and tells the shed hands that a fleece is ready for processing.

  • At crutching time "STOCKOUNT" is a tremendous boon. It removes the counting bottleneck and lets you concentrate on keeping the sheep up to the shearers.

One farmer needed more undercover space to keep his sheep dry. He saved a costly extension to his shearing shed by installing "STOCKOUNT" and demolishing the holding pens in his shed.

A farmer from Mundalla, S.A., who has three units in his shed says not only is he very pleased with the results but his shearers declare "Every shed should have them".

This digital stock counter was especially designed for use in the down chutes of shearing sheds.

"STOCKOUNT" consists of a counter and display unit, a small sensor unit , a tiny beam sender and 12 volt power converter. The sensor is mounted on the outer side of one side of the chute so that the sensor's "eyes" have clear vision through a hole in the chute wall across to the sender mounted in the opposite side wall of the chute. An infra-red beam is broken as each animal passes through, and the display unit mounted near the shearer registers the number of sheep he's shorn.

"STOCKOUNT" operates from mains or 12 volt battery power and in the event of a power failure there is no need to worry that the count might be lost as the total is held on the display for at least three hours. Normal counting operation continues when power is restored.
