The
Run
2008 AGPU run
This
will be a brief write-up since I wasn’t on the run or taking notes, since I’d
foolishly assumed that I had escaped from the mismanagement for another year.
Goanna had set the run, cooked the food, cleaned the house, helped organise
t-shirts etc, etc, while I just got a couple of kegs of beer ready.
The
members started arriving at 5 pm, Sniffer & Needher with a visitor rocked up first, closely followed by
Just Wendy and Just Neil. No sign of Chunda and the
bucket, so I dished out some light megaswilltm
I had in the fridge. The hashers kept arriving so there was nothing for it but
to start serving the Bitter on tap, in order to prevent an insurrection from
the thirsty mob. Cousin It & Boxy rocked up the a
large block of chilli laced ice for the down-downs, before Chunda
finally rolled in with the piss just before 6pm. The mob had swelled to about
30 with a few blow-ins and some we’d almost forgotten like Bonus Point and
Around
6.15pm the reluctant mob were kicked out onto the run/walk trails. I set out to
man the drink stops, assisted by a double-crutched Needher.
The runs seemed to be timed well with runners and walkers getting to both drink
stops at approximately the same time. Nothing like a hash special shandy to get
you (or your bowels) moving on, a touch of

back Growler started working his magic with the cash, balance sheets, run
counts and bills while the rest of us got into the slops. He won’t know what to
do with himself next Monday! Finally the run count was declared and Goanna and Chunda distributed our new classy “ratarsed”
t-shirts before Simpleton got the hat on his head for the last time.
The Circle
GM Simpleton
called his last circle to order and sat Goanna on the ice for her efforts, then
Just Wendy awarded the big prick to some deserving tosser (sorry no notes, busy
serving piss) and the visitors - Dipswitch, McCavity
& Bodsa - all got a drink. In a change to the
usual AGPU procedure the down downs were in little plastic cups. There’ll be no
repeat of the drunken collapse of Self Excitement in years past when all he’d
had to drink all night was light beer (admittedly about 8 litres of it). A few
charges followed – Boxy (see above), Growler (secret Hash training) and Just
Neil for bright new shoes. Bingo! naming opportunity,
quickly given the Hash handle of Fluoro.
“Why didn’t somebody warn me?”
A break was
then called so we could watch the Broncos play Souths
and Kai to be served.
Fodder over and
half time @ the football. It was time for the handover and much sitting on the
chilli laced block of ice. New GM – Abbo spent a long
time on the ice while our visitors regaled us with a great hash song, embarrassing
Song master Pancho who got flustered and buggered up
the next down down song and got iced himself. The two
visitors then got iced for being far too good and embarrassing the Song master.
Abbo then took
charge of the Dozer awards and dished them out, followed by the AGPU awards to
virtually everyone before the circle dragged to a close with a few payback
icings before we could get to the serious part of the evening which was
drinking the kegs dry and playing pool badly. To&from
and I were allegedly the last standing (sort of) at 3 am.

Goanna dished up two lots of beef/chicken curry, bread, rice and spuds.
There was enough for seconds (even thirds for some hungry bastards). Keeping the noise level down to a dull roar for a while at least.
