:::: " KIMONO SHIRL'S HOUSE ! " ::::: and Happy 1st
Birthday to radioShirley!
Greetings Shirleyphiles and welcome again to another half hour
of low fi lovliness! Before I get into the week's ranting and
ravings I'd like you all to join us in blowing out our 1st. birthday
candle! Yes, its been a whole year my darling mr. Kenneth and
I have been clogging up the netwaves with aural curiousities and
delicious decibel grinding delights for your...and lets face it...our
pleasure! So take a deep breath sweet things, make a wish and
blow whatever is in your immediate vicinity like you've never
blown it before!
We'd like to thank you all for your continued support and kind
words of encouragement. A few times my faithful manservant has
threatened to walk out and leave me, citing irreconcilable musical
differences as his motive hence putting in doubt the further existence
of this little operation. It has only been your bouquets and the
odd, but endearingly worded brickbat that has kept mr. Kenneth
from picking up his knitting needles, hijacking the next VW Combi
and heading for the nearest commune to take up his lifelong dream
of knitting hats for wombats. So keep those kind words and requests
coming or we might just lose him to nature!
This week we've been inspired by faithful listeners Ben and Carolyn
who supplied us with the fabulous Teichiku
Orchestra track to "turn japanese". Yes, we've been
clutching at straws or should that be chopsticks, and mr. Kenneth
has been sorting through the vinyl pleasure dome for any title
or artist that simply suggests Japan!
There are some wonders this week from Wanda Jackson, la Shirl's
Fujiyama Mama of rockabilly sassiness to buzzsaw Nippon cuties,
Shonen Knife. The extraordinary Yoko Ono walking on thin ice to
The Tubes homage to seaweed queens, Sushi Girl and The Dickies
who are stuck in a pagoda withTricia Toyota while gritting their
teeth to the outsider sounds of Renee Hamaty describing the samisen
as a "kooky ukelele, a Tojo banjo with a low down twang!"
So luvverlies, time again to turn up the speakers, bamboozle yourselves
into a stupor, jump on the Sushi love train and on the way, don't
forget to Kimono Shirl's House!
until next time...take absolute care and play fair....
*smooches* la Shirl and mr. Kenneth
