Shirleyphiles,
this week in response from one of Shirl's favourite girls, the
oh so delightful jane, we are moving into sob sister territory
in a big way with a show just packed with unrequited love tunes,
he done her wrong tales, "but darling it's not you...it's
me" excuses....how many times has this old showgirl heard
THAT line...and stories of gals just gettin' IT while they can!
Billie
Holiday (pictured left) naturally kicks off this week's show singing
the blues as only Lady Day can, Etta James would prefer to go
blind than to lose her love...goodness gracious!...Shirl's Pearl,
Janis Joplin sings of a woman left lonely, Lady Day comes slinking
back in with some serious morning heartburn, Nina Simone doesn't
want to be misunderstood, Laura Nyro apologises for goodness knows
what, the fabulous Renee Geyer just doesn't give two hoots about
playing the mistress and why should she?....it's all about love.....Janis
Joplin takes a leaf out of Renee's little black book and tells
us all to get it while we can.....and to wrap it all up, I've
thrown in a tune which is so loaded with memories my martini glass
just overflows...not with tears but MORE alcohol darlings! each
time I hear it...Judy Garland with The Man That Got Away....for
Johnny J ....wherever you may be.... serenaded yours truly with
this tune some twenty years agoin a crowded uni refectory and
to a listener who was stunned that la Shirl could still warble
her way through this song at four in the morning, hammered in
cocktail heaven on a porch somewhere in Caboolture many moons
ago....you know who you are my dear....you may not remember me....but
the moment is forever burned into my brain because we BOTH could
still remember all the words!...that speaks volumes....lol....and
of course.....to all those that got away..........
|
|
So
Shirleyphiles I suggest you fix yourself something long and strong
for this unusually laid back and rather serious instalment of
radioShirley....did I hear someone mutter Drama Queen?....hehe....dim
the lights and don't even think about answering the door or phone
during the next half hour of low-fi lovliness....a little self
indulgence a day keeps the heartbreak away.....for jane, Allyson
and Ella....I hope you especially enjoy.....till next time...play
fair and take *maximum care*
*smooches*

I think so! Amongst the Motown workout of last week there was a

the world needs now is love for sure ...or Shirley for PM! We could
do a helluva lot worse". ;=)

last week's show was truly supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
