Summer
is upon us here in Oz my northern hemisphere Shirleyphiles and
yours truly is starting to go a little ga-ga ( or should that
be go-go ?) from the heat. Indeed, this weeks show is testament
to my present condition. I've been dipping into the musical wunderkammer
of the obscure and fascinating between frequent Evian face sprays,
banana dacquiris and climbing a step ladder...very carefully mind
you, to clean my ceiling fans. So this week's show ranges from
the sublime to the ridiculous but always....thoroughly engaging
and worthwhile....trust me
We
kick off with Miss Piggy and Ozzy Osborne, the discerning Shirleyphile's
Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta "duetting" to Born
to be Wild, Napolean XIV being taken away to the funny farm, the
jaw droppingly awful but wonderous Wiggins Sisters aka The Shaggs
(pictured left). Frank Zappa declared these gals "better
than The Beatles". Make up your own minds....la Shirl is
certainly convinced! David Bowie with the novelty knees up, "The
Laughing Gnome", Charlie Drake being very un-PC with a troublesome
boomerang, Shooby Taylor scatting like a wildthing on hot coals,
Louis Nye being a Teenage Beatnik, one of Shirls and mr Kenneth's
most favourite of musical legends, the incomparable Tiny Tim serenading
his little friends On the Good Ship Lollipop while The Legendary
Stardust Cowboy is standing in a trashcan, The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah
Band are declaring their Urban Spaceman status and everyone's
least favourite urban Star Trekker, William Shatner treats Mr.
Tambourine as only he can. Never has a surname seemed soooooo
appropriate....You have been warned...lol...
|
|
So
Shirleyphiles fix yourself something long and fruity....top it
off off with a brolly and join me while we dig deep into the curiousity
cabinet for this weeks half hour of low-fi lovliness. Heavens,
we just might find that fetching fur covered two-piece polka dot
bathing costume I've been looking for all my life! I'm game if
you are....Last one in's a (insert your personal preference here)....till
next time...play fair and take *maximum care*
*smooches*

Some
of your feedback so far
- "Shirley...my
cousin Anya passed on your url for the UPTIGHT show. Please add
me to your radio list! I loved it!" Johan - Copenhagen
- "la
Shirl...did we see a serious side to our favourite radio mistress?
I think so! Amongst the Motown workout of last week there was a
powerful politcal gem I have never heard before. What was that song?
What the world needs now is love for sure ...or Shirley for PM!
We could do a helluva lot worse". ;=)
smallPaul- Sydney

haven't heard the Tom Clay "What the world needs now is Love/Abraham,Martin
and John" track for many years....ahhh...how the memories came
flooding back amongst tears. Mirko was even moved enough to sit
still with me and talk!" - Anya - Poland
- "Shed
a few tears over your docu pop--- a mixture of reminiscence for
idealistic dreams of the 60's and an end to a particularly moving
Personal Growth course...Thanks to a treasured buddy xx love from
Dorothy" - Samford

"Shirley,
last week's show was truly supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
Did I spell it correctly? HAHA. You had me having a Julie Andrews
moment while cleaning Mirko's room! Have you any more Lulu songs
waiting in the wings for me? By the way, Mirko sends his love.
