10/12/ 2006 - "Sonny & Shirl sing A Duet for You"

Greetings Shirleyphiles and welcome to "Sonny & Shirl sing A Duet for You!"

This show is all about 1+1 = 2. Simple huh? Mind you, exhuming Sonny of Bono fame wasn't such a simple exercise and getting him to sing was even more difficult. So laShirl had to rope in a few of her friends to help her out this time.

mr.Kenneth and myself have put together a fabulous selection of terrific twosomes who'll woo you through the next 45 minutes. This has got to be the biggest lineup of stellar talents radioShirley has ever seen. Get your chops around this lot my low-fi luvverlies :-

Carol Burnett & Julie Andrews, Bert and Ernie, Connie Francis & Hank Williams Jr., Miss Pamela & Miss Sparky, Iggy Pop & Debbie Harry (who isn't ageing well at all, is she Stevee? ;), Esther & Abi Ofarim, Peter Sellars & Sophia Loren, Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, Dolly Parton & Porter Wagoner, Earl Scruggs & Lester Flatt, Ethel Merman & Nelson Eddy, Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme, Elvis Presley & Ann Margret, Teddy & Darryl, Sam & Dave and wrapping up the whole shebang with Noel Coward & Gertrude Lawrence!

Phew!

So grab a significant other, be it animal, vegetable, mineral, human or battery powered and settle back for 45 minutes of low-fi lovliness as yours truly, madly and deeply celebrates the power of two!

Remember, if you've missed some of the other radioShirley shows, don't forget to check out the .mp3 archives.

till next time, take care and play fair!

I've listened to it all the way through twice but keep skipping back to a couple of favs, namely my eternal goddess Sophia Loren with Peter Sellers, and one I've never heard before but have since gathered to be Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme covering Soundgarden's 'Black Home Sun' - what an amazing song! As for Marvin and Tammi, well they truly wipe the floor clean - TheLodger - uk :::: I'm about 20 minutes in (goodness Gracious me) and enjoying it a lot! - Ardent - netherlands :::: Hehe, thanks LaShirl for these great duets. Just listening now. - jackie C - UK :::: Lovely, Shirley and mrKenneth, thank you. A potent voice from my childhood that I never really registered as a legitimate artist (because I was too lazy or Bowie-and Beatle-focused, maybe?). This is a wonderful selection, the last few songs are just blockbuster. Lynne - somewhere in the big ole U S of A :::: This is great! - Adele - brisvegas :::: Ta, Mr K! And thanks very much, too, for the recent LaShirl show. :-) I really love the LaShirl radio shows -- perfect to have playing while I'm catching up on any BWW shenanigans. ;-) It's such a shame about Gene Pitney. He wasn't even old! I couldn't get to the online BBC article about his death, mainly, I think, because their servers had decided to slow down to a virtual halt. I'll try again later. From what Mr C told me though (he listens to the news in the car on the way home from work), Gene was healthy, no medical problems, so it was totally unexpected for him to go like that. I imagine more details will come out over the next few days. - Jackie C - UK :::: Currently listening to the show... Really great, Ken! Christer, wonderful performance!! If Bowie looks for Garson's replacement, you should candidate!! - PierreV - Strasbourg :::: Russ, I have had my cake, and my wishes have come true! This is incredible, all for lil' ole' me??? blush.gif This #1 Chest Thesis fan is pretty much all amazed out! I am sooo excited to get to the main event, 1957 (russ, you mad, lovely madman!) but for now we're bopping to these great tunes (splish splash is one my dad's absolute favorites, his eyes went wide when it came on!) Rock on, dudes, and thanks again, you are simply the greatest bunch of maniacs I've ever had the pleasure to know. Ki-scout, Chez-scout, Chi-scout, all of them thank you, and think you're the cat's meow! Lynne - somewhere in the big ole U S of A :::: It's great people have birthdays! What a fantastic show for Mike's birthday. :) And I'm so honoured to have 'Little Liza Mike (Miss Elizabeth ;))' included with a name check on the web page. Wonderful too, for me, to have discovered 'Boy Wonder', which I thought was superb. My kind of music. These shows of yours (and La Shirl's ;)) are what being a Bowie fan is all about, in my opinion. I bet, as well, that Lou Reed would love your shows! What with his pre-Velvets past, writing for Pickwick Records (I think it was them anyway), I think he would appreciate the selection of tunes you pick for the shows, not just musically, but that whole of 'telling of story' that goes with these songs. :) Please send BA Mike (Mr Wonderful) my very best wishes for his birthday, and hope to maybe see you on BWW soon. Much love to you, La Shirl, a Mike, and talk very soon! Jackie (C) xxxxx - UK :::: Ken & La Shirl great to see that your around- helping to keep the community connected- Congratulations Mike many more !!! Black Hole Sun by Steve and Eydie that is totally whacked. - mike - Ohio - our birthday boy of the moment :::: Existential question: if a redhead shaves his head, is he still a redhead??? Hmm, it may be necessary to have achieved a certain wisdom to answer this... perhaps like that personified by a certain shaved-head redhead who turns *49* this very day, DEAR MIKE!!! laShirl and our own mrKenneth have put together quite the show for you, goin' back to a time when your red head could be seen bobbing around the local JC Penny in search of a Batman periscope for 77¢!
