Baby Bootie Pattern

1 oz. baby yarn
1 pair #1 needles (7" are nice)
Cast on 60 stitches.
K2, P2 for 20 rows.
Knit across 21 sts and put on holder.
Knit across 18 sts and keep on needle.
Place remaining 21 sts on holder.

Make 11 sections for the upper part of bootie.
(A section is K1 row, P 1 row, K 1 row.)
On Sections 3, 4, 6, & 7, decrease 1 st at the beginning and end of each row.
End with knit row. 10 Sts. remaining.

Pick up 16 sts on the side of upper part of bootie, knit 21 sts from holder.
Turn and purl back picking up 16 sts on the other side of upper bootee. Purl 21 sts from other holder.

Make 6 sections. Place marker in center (after 42nd stitch).

Sole Shaping:
Row 1: K5, K2 together, knit to within 5 sts of marker, K2 together, K3, slip marker, K3, K2 together, knit to within 7 sts of end, K2 together, K5.
Row 2 & all even rows: Purl back.
Row 3: K4, K2 together, knit to within 4 sts of marker, K2 together, K2, slip marker, K2, K2 together, knit to within 6 sts of end, K2 together, K4.
Row 5: K3, K2 together, knit to within 3 sts of marker, K2 together, K1, slip marker, K1, K2 together, knit to within 5 sts of end, K2 together, K3.

Finishing:
Weave sole stitches together.
Sew back seam.
Crochet a tie and lace thru bottom of bootie ribbing near start of sections.
