November 2009 to 8 November Cleft
lip and palate is the third most common birth defect and occurs in approximately
1 in every 700 births, yet despite its prevalence it is still a condition which
is relatively unknown to the general public. Cleft Awareness Week is a time to bring knowledge, understanding and recognition of this common birth defect into the public domain. It is also a time to raise awareness of the understanding and friendly support which CleftPALS can offer to those who are affected by cleft lip and / or palate. Our service is available to anyone who is having or has had a child with a cleft, or anybody who needs to talk to someone about a cleft in the family. CleftPALS Qld is available on 3341 5627, to talk to people who have been through and can share the experience, because ‘The Sharing Helps’.
