Diving Report

Blue Zone Scuba is proud to announce it has now acquired the use of Ocean Cat for our day boat. Ocean Cat is a very spacious boat, with large saloon area's downstairs and up. Full galley facilities ensure you will be well catered for, warm shower and toilet facilities are also available on board this vessel.

Huge gearing up areas ensures you will be no longer falling over each other to get in the water. Dates for Ocean Cat can be found on the trips page, but basically we are now diving every second weekend on Ocean Cat. With all the above in mind we are certain that everyone will appreciate the added comfort they will experience when out diving off this vessel. Costs for Ocean Cat is $160 member and $170 non-member and prices include morning tea, smorgasbord lunch, use of two tanks and weight belts. For those people with their own tanks we will provide free air fills. We firmly believe Ocean Cat is the best value for money boats in the area.

Ocean Cat .................................... Sun 1st March 2009.

What a beaut day to go diving!  At 7am it looked like a perfect day and after all the gear was loaded we headed for Gotham City, north of Flinders Reef. Gotham is a Granite Rock extending 15m up from the bottom lying in around 20m descending to around 36m if you go over the rocky ledge. Reports of Saturdays trip out there was ‘perfect’ so spirits were high however, once we got out past Moreton Island it started to get a little rough. The swell was much bigger and Ocean Cat was rolling a bit more than expected however, this slowed once we were anchored on our dive site – mostly.

The vis was around 20m and there was little current, but the swell got the better of some on board. We had slipped a little further south of the site so a 50m swim was needed to get there. A few large pelagics and schooling fish including Red Emperors so a good dive all things considered. After picking up Brad, who had decided to drift with the current for a while, we headed for Flinders Reef where the consensus was to do our 2nd dive there.

After morning tea of cake & tim-tams we geared up for an easy & relaxing dive and that’s exactly what it was. The water temp was 27’C and as usual Flinders didn’t disappoint. Vis was again around 20+m with reports of Turtles, Octopus, Crayfish, Lobster as well as the usual nudibranchs, pipefish and schooling fish. With a bottom time of 45min and no current it was easy to see as much as you wanted and to have a very good exploration.

We headed to Bulwer for lunch which was very calm and had the usual hot roast chicken, chips & salad with ice-cream for desert – onya George!
