Geese

Part of the famous painting of geese from early in the 4th Dynasty.
Found during 1871 in the mastaba of Nefer-Maat and Atet at Meidum to the south of Cairo .


Hedgehog

Hedgehog in blue faience. Its presence in the tomb would have been for a protective influence.
Hedgehog fat or oil was supposed to cure baldness!
Length - 5.3 cm. From Thebes (Luxor area - west bank) - acquired in 1893.
Middle Kingdom - 11th Dynasty.


Hippo
Hippopotamus in blue faience with depictions of Nile flora and fauna on its body.
From excavations in Thebes, early 1860s. Length - 18 cm.
Middle Kingdom - 11th to 13th Dynasties.
