Woomera - Sam McHardy
I am putting together
an outline of a book I am
contemplating on Wing Co Sam McHardy RAF. Sam, I understand, commanded
a very early contingent of Meteor aircraft and personel that was sent
from the UK to Woomera. Most of the story covers the war years,
but as his career in the RAF did not finish until 1957 the Woomera
story is important.
I have attempted to contact Geoff Taylor who has published a book on
those days, but the e-mail in your site is returned each attempt. (
geofftay@pcug.org.au ). Can you help me? Sam was my step-father and a
wonderful man. He wrote some notes on his flying days, but died before
he completed them.
Thank you

Contrave Optical Section
I was in Woomera August 1964 to
September 1967 in the Contrave Optical Section. Is there anyone out
there that was either in the Kine or Manual section? Names I remember
were Jim Degotardi, Jan Lukac, Charlie Neschich, Jack Smith, Jim Hogan,
Bruce Atkin and the senior officer was Radcliffe or Ratcliffe. The head
of manual was a welsh guy Evans. Another name from Manual and
later with the Baker Nunn was Dennis Cockerall.
Anybody with news please contactn me.

Info 1957-1960
I was at Woomera from
November 1959 to summer of 1960 as part of the RAF contingent. I worked
in the telemetry section of Flight Control, Evetts Field. I am hoping
to make contact again with Stewart Gordon (also RAF) who I believe now
lives in Oz.
Incidentally I have a few photos of the RAF and RAAF lads who were in
the same hut as myself, also some photos taken on open day at the
range. Would like to swap photos and memories.
Here's hoping.

Woomera
Gidday, mate. I just want to let you
know that you have a terrific website. My name is Steve Zehender AKA
Chingy AKA Little Zed.
I was born in good old Woop Woop in 1953 and "survived" there till
1982/83. Unfortunately, I have never been back yet. I couldn't imagine
how much the place has changed in the last 22 years. Anyway, I find it
great to have have a look on your site and read items from old mates. I
would like to contact some of these people.
I can be contacted at the e-mail address below.
Thank you,
Steve Zehender

Woomera
Hi Mark,
I have
just been browsing your Woomera web site for the first time and it sure
stirred some old memories. I spent (or rather mis-spent) most of my
youth in Woomera. Arriving in 1966 with my parents Margaret and Frank,
sister Margaret and brothers David and Andrew our one-year stint turned
into around 20 years. I have so many wonderful memories of my time
there and would love to hear from others who lived and went to school
there around the same time. Also I am trying to obtain a copy of
the Woomera Christmas song. I can’t remember the title, but I am sure
someone will. If anyone does or knows someone else who does, please
contact me. Cheers to all Woomerabugs.

Persons who worked there
I am
trying
to find a gentleman who worked as an electronics engineer in the
sixty's. His name was, I believe, Des Marks. He moved out to Oz
in the 60's he had a wife and two daughters - Eileen
and Patricia. I may be wrong about his first name, but its been
such a long time now. He may still be alive and I would like
to get in touch with the family again. I would
be really pleased if you can help.
Yours
sincerely
David Clark

Search
I've been looking for my great uncle who went to Woomera in
1956... latest I've been told is that he went as a baker. He had a
business(cafe), but left to go to Woomera in 1956, so I guess he worked
in cafe or cooked in some way. His name was Arthur aka Joe Collier. He
was married and arrived in Woomera with two kids, one I believe is
still alive, but I know not where he lives now, but would like to find
him. His name is David Collier. How old he was when he arrived at
Woomera I do not know. But that's all I have on Arthur.

Cyril Collier

Woomera
I was thrilled to find
out about the Woomera web site. I was able to get back in contact with
a friend
I hadn’t heard from in years.
My name is Elizabeth
Collinge (it used to be Zepf). I moved to Woomera with my family in
1962 (when
I was 2 years old) and lived there until 1976 when we moved to Adelaide. I
attended St Joseph’s school and the Woomera High.
My parents names are
Joe and Gonny and I have a younger brother, Albert.
I still proudly tell
people that I’m a Woomera-ite and believe that growing up in Woomera
was the
best childhood a person could have. Although we didn’t have TV we
learnt to
make our own fun and develop many life long skills we still carry with
us to
this day. It was a great shock to move to the city where you can’t
trust
everyone and have to lock up everything.
Anyway I’d love to
catch up with anyone who remembers me.
Liz Collinge
