Subject: Atkinson Alligator
After looking at your web site, I thought you may be able to help me. I
am restoring a British military vehicle called an Atkinson Alligator.
This vehicle was manufactured for the soul purpose of retrieval of the
Blue Streak missile system on Woomera test range. Please can you have a
look through your photos and see if the vehicle is shown.

DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKER SEEKS OLD MOVIE FOOTAGE OF WOOMERA!
I am an Australian documentary filmmaker researching a program on Woomera - Past, Present and Future which will use current developments as a way into exploring the history of Woomera through its various 'eras' to date.
I am primarily concerned with the town's social history and, as well as researching official film archives, I am seeking old home movie footage (e.g. super-8 or video) from ex-Woomerites around the world which could be of interest. If you have footage which reflects community life or particular aspects of Woomera's past, its location, activities, lifestyle, etc and might be interested in allowing this to be used, I would appreciate hearing from you.
In the first instance, a brief written description of the footage would suffice and then an arrangement for viewing could be made if appropriate. Also, if you have any particular, personal experience or knowledge of Woomera which you feel would be important to include in a film like this (including news of any planned reunions, etc) I would be glad to hear from you.
I am interested in all perspectives, including those of wives and families and of workers who came to Woomera from overseas. This documentary research is supported by Film Australia.

Subject: Woomera heart strings
Thank you, thank you for this site. I have an entry for the request site when you get a chance. I really appreciate your effort on our behalf. I was so happy to see this web site as I have never had Woomera far from my mind or heart and I left in 1971.
I was, I think, the first Miss Village Teenager in 1971, what an honor and a thrill for a "yank". I would love to find a few old friends - Marcus Browne if anyone knows what happened to him or where he is; Barry or Ian Brown, and Rodney or Leigh Goodall, Christine Broom, Penny or Cookie, Patrick; Old Bill was my brother Roark's first mentor into the world of walking to a different drummer.
Another American girl Linda Fegley and I hung out with this group at the teen center, pool (remember Tarzan), coffee shop. I learned to love in Woomera and I will never forget my days there. I would love to come back, but I am sure nothing could recapture those good old days.

Hi Mark, this is a great site well done. I have lived in Woomera my whole life. My mum and dad [Sue & Phil (Turkey) Turner] both worked here for many years now they have left town. But I wanted to stay, so I got a good job working the bar at the ELDO hotel. Soon after I started there, I had meet so many people wanting to know about Woomera, but me being a young lad all of 18, I didn't know much about Woomera. So I have slowly started looking on the net at sites like yours and it has helped me a lot, thanks Mark.
I still live in Woomera and am
now working at what I have all ways
wanted
to do and that is tp be a firemen, ambo, even with Woomera's
small
number of people, I am still having a great time. If anyone would like
some info on Woomera and what it's
like today, just drop me a line. Thanks Mark, all the best, Simon
Turner

I am Ray's daughter Sharron and
my father worked at Woomera in 1953.
Unfortunately, he was blown up on the rocket range in September 1953.
He
was badly injured, lost his sight and was badly burnt too. He was part
of a team sent out from RAE Farnborough. I know the rockets he was
involved
in were Blue Streak, Black Knight and Red Duster. I would dearly like
to
hear from anyone that knew my father. He died in 2001, so I cannot get
this information from him. I would like to hear from
people who knew him or worked with him or knew about the accident.
Thank you.

Amazing ... was just surfing the
net and thought I'd see what
"Woomera"
would bring up. Memories and plenty of them.
I was in Woomera from 1979 through 1983, at Nurrungar with Fairey
A'asia.
I'm Chris Anderson and my wife at the time was LeVenda Anderson. We
arrived
with two kids ... Ian and Rochelle, and two more were born in Woomera,
Rhianna and Connor.
I can remember great times and great friendships, but sadly haven't kept in touch as I should have. Greg (Spider) Peters, Fraser Long, Gibbsy and others whose names escape me for the moment ... would love to catch up with you.
Jeff Watts ... you goose ... bought a bunch of fishing gear because on hearing you were being posted to Woomera, Australia ... you looked on a map to see all of those lakes and naturally thought there'd be water in them. You were in for a rude shock ... but we sure made up for it.
Anyway, if anyone remembers me or my kids feel free to get in touch.
Cheers
Chris Anderson,
Canberra

I didn't live in Woomera very long ... and I didn't exactly do very much ... but I was wondering if anyone knows where some people I know are now ... Here they are and what I know ... if you know anything please contact me.
The Curruthers family (may be spelt incorrectly) - Darren, Anne and their son Ashley. Last I heard, they moved to Sydney somewhere ...
Bernard McCarthey - lived on Booromi St. Had property in Quorn; still in Woomera when I moved out ...
Samantha Turner - last I heard she'd moved to Alice Springs, I forgot her e-mail ...
And ... I now know a May Lin-Bormann. She can't remember what street she used to live on ... only that it started with a B and it's not Booromi St.
If you can help on any of these please e-mail me.
Thank you.

Subject: Memories of Woomera
Dear Mark,
Your site is amazing! I was one of the first children living in Woomera
- arrived there at 11months of age in about January 1951, when dad [who
was there by himself while mum and I had to live at Arno Bay(!!!!)]
could
get one of the first married-quarter houses. My brother, Ray(jnr), was
born there in 1952 and my sister, Robyn, in 1955. I attended the
50-year
reunion but was bitterly disappointed that I only found one other
person
I knew from school.
Thanks again for taking the time to give us a place for our memories - so very precious.
Regards,
Sandra Rohde (nee Farmer)

How sad it is to see Woomera turning into a ghost town. I use to live in Woomera and I worked for USAF in Accounting and Finance. What wonderful times were had by all - my husband and I have such wonderful memories.
I met my future husband Dave Fowler - we were married in 1996 in the USA.
We now live in the USA and we come home every year to Adelaide as I am originally from Adelaide. My maiden name was Cheryl Priest.
Thank you for a wonderful web site
Yours Sincerely
Cheryl & Dave Fowler
